This is an "at one's own risk" manual, in agreement with Matt!

1. create a new empty AT5-palette in the palette editor (also as additional palette possible).

2. select any color (in the example red = 12).

3. save the palette.

4. export the palette (as *.rmpxml - file).

5. open the palette in editor "Notepad". The new monochrome palette is ever the last.

6. copy a few lines " <int>12</int> ", so that increase the number of " <int>12</int> " lines (in the sample 20)

7. save again as *.rmpxml - file.

8. open the palette editor. Delete all previous own palettes (otherwise al redoubles) and import the *.rmpxml - file.

9. now select the different colors.

10. result (the palette in pic. Is even longer than 20 colors). Note: The colors in this pic. only applicable with HDS units!!!

Result with one other 24 color palette and a bit transparency:

No worries Fjordfisher!
The only I thing I would say, is that I am not sure how robust the code is when importing - as this scenario has not been tested. I would not be surprised if an invalid AT5 colour code would crash RM, so be careful :)
(I may make that a bit more robust..)

I have created more than 10 such longer palettes - there is no problem since weeks.

It's a good tip - and the number of colours shouldn't matter. The only thing to be careful of is that the colour id's that you use do map to genuine AT5 colours. So long as the numbers are between 0 - 255, it should be fine :)

Agree with Trevor - very good information.

Have to say this is one of the better forums I'm involved in. Thanks to all that contribute.

Thanks,

another possibility is to vary one and the same scheme in lenght and color distribution, in this case the palette from Trevor.
This fast allowed to adapt this scheme to lakes with different depth.

Tried to create own palette with more than 12 colors. Works fine for AT5 custom palettes.
But fails for RGB. After increasing number of <Color>...</Color> entries in .rmpxml file, I can't use palette editor to change colors.
The only way I've found - create 2 palettes and then combine (in Notepad) necessary color entries in one palette.
