ReefMaster version 1.8 is now available for download. Please update using the Check for Updates button on the ReefMaster start-up window.

Video can also be viewed on vimeo.

The major new feature in this release is the Sidescan Mosaic Module.
The sidescan mosaic module is compatible with both the LITE and PRO editions, and can be purchased by using the Upgrade button in the About ReefMaster window (to open the About window, click the top button on the main ReefMaster toolbar).

Also included is a simplified way to export map projects, known as Preset Map Styles. Preset map styles make map exporting map projects in a wide range of styles a single-click operation.

Shaded Relief has been added as a new raster export type, and is included in some of the new preset map styles. Shaded relief maps are great for highlighting map detail, and can be used for both AT5 (Lowrance) and Google Earth maps. The image below is a shaded relief export of Sydney Harbour. Note the two wrecks (the Centennial and the Currajong) at the left of the map:

CSV import has been upgraded to support a very wide range of geographic coordinate systems, as well as offering more configuration for data layout. Data can also be thinned on import, so that very dense data sets (such as LIDAR) can be used effectively within ReefMaster. This opens up a huge range of freely available data to be used within ReefMaster, such as UKHO and NOAA inshore bathymetry.

Amazing work Matt. Looks like I am going to be able to put my Darwin Harbour data to great use. Also I need to buy a new sidescan transducer!

I would like to add when I started out my goal was to produce shaded relief maps of the areas I fished. I thought I was going to have to settle for contour lines. My mate said he wanted my sidescan images overlayed onto the bottom. I told him he was dreaming!

You have now managed to put everything from my wishlist into one amazing product. I can't wait to start making some great maps.

Hi Matt,

Can we select either left or right channels on both Humminbird and Lowrance or is this still just available for Humminbird?

Congratulations on the release of your SideScan Module ... looks great!

It's available for both HB & Lowrance. Both channels are shown, but if you want to view just one or the other then you can adjust the port/starboard range and hide the side you don't want. Do this via the right-click menu on a sidescan "segment" - you need to hold the mouse over the edge of the segment so that it goes red and then click the right button.

My sidescan transducer is pretty well stuffed but I did manage this capture of a saltwater crocodile.

That's a proper one Dan - hope you were in a big boat!

I remember fishing out of a 12 foot tinny up a small creek on Cape York a few years ago. Mirror flat calm and only about 4 feet deep. At one point I looked off to the side, and about a 10 footer was looking at us with just his eyes and snout above water. Then he just sank down without a ripple.. amazing how stealthy it was. We went and fished somewhere else :)

They can be sneaky things. They can also be surprised and make a big ripple! I had a large one shoot out off the bank one day and cause quite a swell. Logs and trees were thrashing about everywhere.

I have a feature request / tweak for the mosaic overlay. The minimum turn feature is good and I can see that you might need a max speed function in some places. But... a minimum speed would be very handy too as when you are travelling less than 1 km/h the structure scan gets smudgy.
