I have a Lowrance Elite 5dsi and am creating my own satellite maps. I used SAS.Planet and insite map creator. I used a step by step video I found online and everything went ok. My problem is when I put the micro SD card in the lowrance unit, the unit does not read it or give me the option to select the card. What am I missing that could be causing this?

Do you have the latest firmware on your Elite installed?

Elite HDI can handle SD up to 32 GB, for your Elite DSI I am not sure. Try a SD smaller 4 GB.

While creating your map with the IMC, standard setting was at5 Version 13 or 12. Try at5 version 10 for compatibility reasons.

At least: some SDs have a little mistake, sometimes it helps to try another SD.

Elite DSI does not support at5 raster completely. If you zoom in to much, you will loose your map.

The Elite DSI has a max on memorycards at 2GB from what I remember. Apart from that Hubert pretty much covered all the bases. :)

thanks for the answers guys. Yes i checked and my DSI is running Version 3.6 Which is the latest update on the lowrance site. My navioics premium SD card works just fine. Im not sure of the at5 version. I will have to go back and check. I bought a 32gb toshiba card. For the raster issue, i only created maps in the 14 and 16 zoom from SAS.Planet. I am not sure if that is too much or not.
- how do i change the AT5 version to 10? this is my first time trying this so its still new to me
- when i inserted the card into the unit the memory card icon on the screen did not flash as it does with the navionics
- my buddy with a 7 hdi is having the same issue

Elite HDI is a very different beast then Elite DSI. Elite HDI is in many ways what the previous Elite/ Elite DSI should have been, ie "HDS light". Elite HDI can take memorycards up to 32GB, and copes well with at5.

Yeah I know the hdi is more capable. I was throwing that in there as it may help solve the problem. I confirmed the elite DSI can only take a 2gb card. I'll try that first then go back and get version 10 if need be. How do i change the at5 version to 10?

thanks, i had figured it out before i came back and checked here. Still no luck on getting it to work. I will try Version 7 and see if it works. I can see the unit reading to 2gb card and i can browse the files from the unit but it will not display the maps at any zoom level. My friend with the HDI unit got his maps to work by using version 10. I tried his map files with no luck. either the DSI can not do what im asking of it or im still missing something.
If i could sell this one, id get the 7" HDI haha

Now I have got it, I think ...

You have an Elite DSI. The DSI can not handle raster maps. Raster maps you only can use on HDS and with a few limitations on Elite HDI.

DSI:
no raster maps, only vector in at5 - version 10 format
micro-SD size up to 2 gb - no SDHC supported

Try with only one at5 vector map on your sd.

and to answer your question: satellite imagery always is raster map; this will not work on Elite / DSI units.
