Exporting Data
Maps and GPS data can be saved in a range of formats, for use on GPS devices or in other GIS applications.
Export Format |
Description |
CSV (Comma Separated Values) |
CSV is a simple text file format that contains a list of positions and depths, in the format Latitude, Longitude, Depth. The CSV export format can be used to export map contour data and tracks, and is useful for transferring track-point data between ReefMaster projects or other GIS applications. Note that CSV files contain a simple list of position and depth data; map contours and tracks are not separated within the file when exported together. |
GPX (GPs eXchange) |
The GPX format is an XML based format that can be used to export tracks, waypoints and map contours. The GPX format is compatible with a wide range of GPS devices and GIS applications, and is particularly useful for transferring waypoints to Lowrance™ and Humminbird™ units. |
Humminbird™ |
Waypoints, tracks and map contours can be exported in the native Humminbird™ waypoints and routes file format (.HWR) and track format (.HT). Map contours are exported as tracks, with each separate contour being written as a separate track "segment". Contour maps can be viewed on Humminbird GPS devices by styling the imported track as a solid line. |
LCM |
LCM is an older Lowrance™ map format that supports contour lines and shorelines only. The LCM format has been superseded by the AT5 format, and use of the LCM format is not recommended. |
AT5 |
The AT5 format is a fully featured map format compatible with Lowrance™ and Simrad™ GPS units. The AT5 format can be used to export ReefMaster map projects and user maps in a wide range of styles. This is the recommended export format for all Lowrance™ and Simrad™ devices. |
Google Earth |
Map projects, user maps, tracks and waypoints can be exported to the Google Earth file format, which can be viewed in Google Earth and a wide range of other GIS applications. |
ESRI Shapefile |
The Shapefile format is widely used across GIS applications, and can be used to export map projects, user maps, tracks and waypoints. Shapefile is the recommended export format when using ReefMaster data in other GIS applications. The Shapefile format is also used by the Navico Insight Map Creator (IMC). |
Selecting Assets for Export
·Tracks, Waypoint Sets, User Maps and Data Sets can all be exported from the Asset Library, Global View (see below) or from within the edit window for a particular asset.
·Projects can be exported by choosing an option from the screen-level context menu within the Contour View of a map project (see below).
·A Data Set can be used to group assets that are commonly exported together; the data set can then be exported via the context menu in the Asset Library.
(1) Exporting assets from the Asset Library
Select one or more tracks, waypoint sets, user maps or data sets, then choose the option Write To File in the context menu, activated with the right mouse button. Only assets of one type at a time can be exported via the asset library. To export assets of different types together, either use a Data Set or select assets for export graphically in the Global View (see below).
(2) Exporting assets from within an asset's edit window
Use the Write to File option in the screen-level context menu, activated by right clicking with the mouse, in empty space, within the graphical edit area.
Selecting Assets for Export in the Global View
Select the assets required for export by by either drawing a rectangle around then with the mouse, with the mouse in region-select mode, or by clicking the required assets individually (hold the Control key down for multiple selection). Choose the option Write Selected Assets from the pop-up tool-bar or context menu.
