Hello everyone,

I’m encountering an issue while creating a depth map in ReefMaster Release 2.2.57. I need to accurately define the boundary of a dock wall to prevent a gradual decrease in depth towards this boundary. There’s a dock at my location, and it's crucial that the depth map doesn’t show a gradual decrease in depth towards the water boundary.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
Created a line representing the dock wall.
Set accurate depths for this line and ensured the Provide Depth option is enabled.
However, this does not solve the problem as the depth still gradually decreases towards the boundary. I’m attaching a photo showing the issue with the gradual depth transition. Notably, this incorrect depth display occurs only in the 3D visualization.
Additionally, I need to ensure the map is displayed correctly in 3D visualization. How can I make sure the map appears correctly in 3D?

Any advice or recommendations on these issues would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi Sonar Scout,
I see that we have the same type of problem linked to the interpolation between the points as Matt explains in the answer below he gave me to the question ''Depth of the spots''. Perhaps he could have improved this rendering in future corrections.
Best regards,
Bruno

Spot depths are treated in the same way as any other data point. When we generate a map in ReefMaster, we triangulate the points, interpolate values between the points and then smooth the finished raster slightly. This method can result in the erosion of some very small details, such as the example you have described, and does not guarantee that depth points in the finished map are identical to the source data points. There are a variety of interpolation methods, none of which are perfect, and we are currently looking at adding a few more options to a later version of ReefMaster, such as IDW and "natural neighbours", which could help in situations like this.

The best way to eliminate unwated map areas is to either not include them in the mapped area rectangle, or to create fake "island" boundaries that block these areas out. The "fake" boundaries should have "provide depth" unchecked.

In your case: for the problematic area (steep edge) draw a shoreline more landsides (= on land area), and add a island about it with the original correkt shoreline geometry.

The sample show the principle but in other context.
