Hello Mat,

For 1 year I have been working to discover all the possibilities of RF. Truly impressed, Map View creates true works of contemporary art, and better of course.
But I stumble on the problem of Spot Depths.
- in Project / Tracks & Boundaries / I edit a spot depth with exact coordinates and depth recorded on official maps of SHOM (French hydrographic service) layered
- I understood that this point is treated like the other traces when I click on the Map View / Generate Map tab - Smoothing 1, Interpolation 25
- but then the spot depth no longer appears and the generated map loses all its precision at this location. I had included - 3.7 and -3.2 and it becomes -3 and -2.5
- only way I found: create a way point by assigning it as name, the exact depth.

It is not very satisfactory, unsightly, and above all imprecise for a known depth.

Thank you for your advice on solving this problem.

Bruno

Spot depths are treated in the same way as any other data point. When we generate a map in ReefMaster, we triangulate the points, interpolate values between the points and then smooth the finished raster slightly. This method can result in the erosion of some very small details, such as the example you have described, and does not guarantee that depth points in the finished map are identical to the source data points. There are a variety of interpolation methods, none of which are perfect, and we are currently looking at adding a few more options to a later version of ReefMaster, such as IDW and "natural neighbours", which could help in situations like this.

Hello Matt,
Glad to see that RM is getting a new lease of life. I am always delighted and if in future improvements you can correct the problem described above that would be perfect, and like other contributors to this forum I would agree to break the bank.
Best regards,
Bruno
