I'm always looking for something different to do. (To much time on my hands maybe) I got to thinking the other day about my maps. They're cool to look at and to use, and cool to view in 3D mode, but wouldn't be interesting to have actual "hands on", "physical" 3d "models' of some of those lakes. The smaller ones in particular.

Can the maps be printed out? (I couldn't find a "Print Map" button any where.) If it were possible, i could make multiple copies, get to working with a razor blade cutting out the different depths/contour lines, gluing them to thin card board sheets and then stacking them so that the finished product would be an actual map of the lake? Can it be done?

How is it possible?

Can you describe your way to create the print with a 3d printer?

I have made 3D model.
First of all, map in Reef master, then import to Rhino3D.

This is not 3D print. I cuted each layer separately on hot wire ploter.

Model dimesions: 3m x 2.4m
one tile dimensions 60 x 60 cm (what you see on the picture)

First of all you start with a csv export from Reefmaster and to be true thats is the only part you need from Reefmaster (but the most important!).
After that i use 5 different programs before the file is ready to print in 3d.

I could not find the right tools for the complete procedure so i wrote a bit of code to do the job.

@Gar4field: what a nice map, really great!

It's an old post, but maybe you still remember how did you do from ReefMaster to Rhinoceros.
