Hi, I thought there might be some experienced people here who could help with a problem. It's not strictly to do with Reefmaster although I use Reefmaster to process the data.
I was wondering if anyone knew the specifications of the transducer cables used for the Lowrance LSS2 sidescan and the Humminbird 898 structure scan units? I would like to have the transducers on towfish up to 50m from the head unit. Are there people on this forum who have extended the cables and what were the best ways you found to do this? Did you just use their commercial extensions and then waterproofed the connectors or did you splice third party cable?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Dave.

Hello Dave,

I am now also in the process of making towfish - actually it's almost done and I've been looking around for cable extension solution.

What I've recently found in this regard - Cat.5 (at least) of shielded twisted pair should be used, extension cables which are available for Lowrance are 3 m long so they are just useless. As regards connectors - this question is still open so if you have any ideas - that would be great to hear.

BR,

-Anton.

Hello,

Which connectors are you using for connecting Cat7 cable and original cable if you use any?

no connectors, just cut cable, soldering wires, isolate and put them on epoxy resin in the towfish side, and solderind connector side, isolate and make seal with 3m ruber tape...it's ok it work, towfish must go at 50 m depht with this system, no problem
