Now create you shoreline using the shore line polyline. Create a few labels if you like using the 0700 points or slipways using the 0500 points.

more from tutorial.....

Now make sure you have a webmap enabled (see pic) and jump around the world to a lake you want to

map.

Draw your shoreline - set it to "Shore line" if it is not already, or set it when you have

completed it by right click - modify - type - select 0x0102 Shore Line.

If you draw it in sections and want to join them together simply select thearrow cursor, then

highlight one - hold ctrl and highlight the other. Now select "MERGE POLYLINES" NOT "JOIN OBJECTS"

!

Create a big background land polygon to make it easy to find on your emulator the first time you open it.

I'll do the lake creation bit in a little while.......

Save the file as an mp file, giving it a sensible name.

At the moment RM can't import mp files as shorelines - but I'm sure it will come.......

After saving as mp (just for safety sake) export as shp. You'll find 3 shapefiles are saved to the same folder as the mp.

use your IMC and load up those 3 files. Run it.

Thats it. You should see your chart in the emulator that you save the AT5 files into.

Just leave IMC running, each time you change something in GPSMapedit and export the shapefiles just hit "build" and you changes will appear straight away when you start the emulator.

Its as close as I've got to a graphic AT5 creator.

You should now have something like image 7 above. A lump of land with a shoreline on it, a slipway object (0500) and a label object (0700)

Right click on the shoreline, modify - kind - convert to polygon (Water 0104)

Click on the land, now hold ctrl and click in the lake. Now right click in the lake - subtract polygons.

I like to make the whole background of the chart into a Water 0104 object - so I normally delete the object I've just subtracted, and create a new polygon behind the whole land polygon, I then make it "Water".

Now export you shapefiles, build IMC and open your emulator. Thats it. It just needs Matts pretty contours.

Well,

I've now got it exporting everything, routes, roads, wrecks, the lot. I'll put some new files up tomorrow and hopefully someone can give it a go with some RM data in the mix. At least then I'll know if my instructions work !

Here is a small MP file for you to load into gpsmapedit. Just export as shapefiles, and then run it in your unit or emulator. The program is basically a graphic frontend for cgpsmapper (a compiler), but with a little fiddling it's easily become a graphic frontend for IMC.

There are some attributes already in some of the objects from the import I did, but these are not exported by the program.

It is centred on 53 32N 009 16.5W if you need to go looking for it.
This was created entirely in Gpsmapedit - and uses all of the objects that are currently set up for export to AT5.

You will need to load the skinfile and shpdefault.dat included in this post, both of which have been changed and improved from earlier versions.

If there is general happiness with it I'll annotate the dat file so that you can fiddle.

For some reason the above post didnt like my zipfile - heres another go....

Edit...NOPE.

3rd try no good either. Doesn't like uploads.

No time to bugger around on dodgy websites - I've emailed it to Matt, perhaps he can put it in the post somewhere.

Here's a link to Trevor's file - not sure what was going on there..

edit: OK - this forum really doesn't like that file for some reason, not sure why.

Here's a link instead.

Thanks Matt, very odd behavious. An MP file is simply a text file so its hard to work out what the reason is.

Anyway, these are 3 screenshots of what you should be seeing. 1 is with transparent polygons in Gpsmapedit, 2 is with opaque polygons in Gpsmapedit, and 3 is what it looks like 2 seconds later when its displayed on an emulator / your unit.

Insight Planner makes a visual mess of the contours and black lines at the moment - I've spoken to Matz about this, but what is seen in Planner certainly aint what you get on the unit ! Maybe Greg can throw some thoughts in about this ?

This is a completely cleaned up ShpDefault.dat file - all the unneeded stuff has gone and it makes it very easy to see the structure of whats needed.
It would be a reasonably simple exercise to modify one of these text files to enable the use of the entire Lowrance object set. Even better if Konstantin simply included it in his next release instead of LCM !

It's a known bug that we haven't fully explored the cause of. Our intention is to replace the embedded chart renderer with a newer one. Hopefully, this fixes it and, if not, we'll have to explore the cause of the problem and make appropriate fixes. For this reason, we're not planning on looking at this bug until we're slated to provide the updated chart renderer on the respective priority list.

Thanks Greg,

its good to know its in hand, and if users are made aware of the issue then they won't be too surprised when they open up their charts in it !

all the best

Still playing with gpsmapedit,

I've made it so that you enter any text in the comment box in the properties of any item, and it populates the Info_box field in the shapefile. This means that you can easily annotate any object at all. Just move the unit cursor over it, enter, and up pops all the info about that point.

It turns your quick and easy amateur charts into something much more professional, and incredibly useful.
